My 4 year old male dachshund continues to try to have s*x with my spayed female dachshund. I guess it's not hurting anything, but it's annoying to her..lol. Is this normal? He was neutered about 3 years ago.

  1. Yep very normal. My two females do ot to eachother. Its all about dominance, i used to have a dog that mounted my dads leg haha. Its a natural instinct for dogs....u will even see puppies in pet shops mounting eachother, much to some peoples dislike. As for your female, im sure when she gets fed up she will give him a growl or snap to put him back in his place. good luck

  2. Nothing to do with s*x, some of the worst offenders for doing this are female neutered dogs!

Train him not to do by a sharpNO! when he starts and putting him out of the room for a few minutes if he persists. Or your female will get so fed up that she trains him herself!

Oh Liana - how to show your ignorance!!!

Both sexes can be neutered. Females are neutered by spaying. Males are neutered by castration. The word neuter comes from the same root as the word neutral - meaning neither one thing or the other. Obviously your English education didn't go that far.

  3. Since he was neutered at a fairly young age, we can assume that this is not a 'habit' that he has gotten used to.

The answer is that dogs 'mount' or hump each other not always with sexual desire but rather often for dominance. So its not really trying to have s*x, but rather showing who's dominant.

In fact, i have had a FEMALE maltese terrier that mounts everyone and everything. It was obviously a show of dominance and should be discouraged when done to humans.

  4. yeahhh my dog does too but its a bog

  5. First off anwen55, Female dogs get spayed not neutered. And to answer the question at hand, yes it is completely normal. My neutered male does it and so does our non-spayed female.

  6. yes. its normal =P that's the age wear it's like puberty for dogs...my friend had one around dat age and it kept h umping my leg lmao.

  7. Yes, its a dominance thing.  Females will try to hump other females but they are not g*y.

  8. i know that they will still try to have s*x for the first month after being neutered because their hormones are still there...but then they should go away and new hormones do n ot develope in neutered dogs so i dont think its normal....but thats just my personal experience....try to consult a vet...best of luck to ur female :P

  9. its comletely normal. Just because a dog is neutered it doesnt mean he wont have any s*x drive, neutering them ony stops him producing sperm and lowers his s*x drive (but he will still have one).

  10. Your neutered male isn't trying to have s*x with your female.  Both neutered males and spayed females do that to be dominant.

  11. my cat did that - we suspect he was fixed too late and remembered

  12. I had a dog that did that too!  I rang the vet and they told me that sometimes a dogs desire is so strong that even neutering him doesn't stop the urge.  It is normal and there is nothing you can do about it.

  13. sure it's normal.  neutering takes away the ability to mate,  not the desire.  my  neutered dog still tries to get on like donkey kong all the time.  he just doesn't know what he's doing.
