Im a training gymnast and i want to develop flexibility so i've been doing a "PNF" stretch, where you rest your leg straight on something, and push down with ur heels to actviate your hamstring.. I did this for about an hour, today i woke up and whenever i move my legs i can feel a pain in the muscle around my groin section.. good or bad?

  1. i would say so, yes.  especially if you are new to this form of excercise.  i am not experienced in PNF, but is an hour's session really a good idea?  best thing in my opinion is speak to your felow trainees, and of course someone in charge, or else your local gym.  I train regularly, but if I have had a few days off, or take an unusually tough or prolonged session at any excercise, yes I will wake up the next day feeling a little sore or achy.

  2. for a workout it would be good to be soar, but stretching should loosen you up. your problem is that you probably overstretched a little. i wouldnt worry about it so much, just stretch lightly over the next few days and it should feel better soon, then stretch heavier again. this stretching should be good for a split, but do a variety of stretches to get the best results. next time you stretch, it helps to warm your muscles slightly whether you do jumping jacks, run in place, take a hot shower or use a heating pad. that way when you stretch, your muscles will be loose.
