i have two parakeets. Ones a boy named Optimus, the other one is a girl named Bumble (yes, like the transformers.) I was watching them interact with each other the other day, and noticed Bumble was feeding Optimus seeds. Im assuming she had stored them. I dont know exactly where she could have. They were far from their food bowl so she couldn't have gone and gotten any while I wasnt looking. I've never seen a parakeet do such a thing.

  1. Parakeets will regurgatate small bits of semi digested seed and feed it to their mates. This is much like they do with babies. Most parakeets the male feeds the female at the opening of the nest, she in turn goes and feeds the babies. It is just a normal bonding thing. They are OK.

  2. That's courtship behavior. Congratulations. A lot of owners have a hard time keeping parakeets happy and stress free enough to start being that affectionate with each other. They'll take a mouthfull of seeds and feed each other from time to time. They don't store food this way for very long periods of time, but they will carry some around in their mouth for a little while if they want to feed each other. They regurgitate food to feed chicks. I'd read up on nesting habits in case they decide to mate. Here's a good little overview of parakeets for a start:
