Is it normal for a teething baby to not eat

as much as normal? he was eating 4-6 oz every 2-3 hrs but now hes only taking like 2-3 oz at a time and he has only had one wet diaper since 4pm! is this normal or should i take him to the hospital or to dr in the morning?

btw hes 4 month

  1. they might not eat as much due to the pain. try making the bottles cold. the only thing i would worry about is dehydrating. i would call the dr about the wet diaper thing.

It is normal for them to refuse the bottle when teething early on.  It's hurting his gums to suck the bottle, it's too much pressure.  Try switching to a faster flow nipple for a bit and see if that works.  Watch the diapers and keep an eye out for dehydration, if you're worried, call the doctor.  Good luck!

  3. Try making some formula popscicles or formula slushy.  For formula slushy you just take properly mixed formula and freeze in ice cube trays and then stick it in the blender with some fresh formula and crush it then use a spoon to feed it.

    If baby is over 4 months try a cup not a bottle as sucking can hurt more.  And you can try chilled formula instead of warm as well.
