Question:

Is it normal for a temporary crown to feel uncomfortable?

I went in last week (a week from today) for the first of two appointments for a crown on a lower left tooth. My bite feels normal but at different times since then, I'm feeling discomfort on or around that tooth. It's almost like a feeling of having a toothache. It's not severe but I can definitely notice it. It's not constant but I've felt the discomfort at least a couple times during each day.

Is this something I need to go back to the dentist about or can I wait until I go back to get the permanent crown on Aug. 7th? It's not preventing me from doing my daily activities at this point. Should I just suck it up?

  1. It may be fine but ask your dentist.  Mine ached from start to finish when the Tylenol wore off.

  2. lol, just suck it up for right now.

Though if it is sensitive to hot or cold, you might want to call them back.

They may not have gotten all the roots when they did the root canal.

    It's temorary.

    :-)

  3. Your nerves might be sore from the drilling, if they are exposed, then the soreness should go away witht perms.

  4. Your gums are probably inflamed from the temporary crown material. It is rough in comparison to your natural tooth. Take some ibuprofen and it should help with inflamation and help with any pain. If the pain is unbarable and constant go see your dentist right away if not  just bare with it. The permanent crown will feel much better.

  5. Okay first of all I'm a dental assistant. If you've had the pain for more then a day call your dentist and tell him/her how it feels. If it Hurts it may be because the crown is not sitting on the tooth well. Or yes it's just sore right now but you should always call your doctor/dentist and ask questions. The office should be more then willing to answer any question you might have; if not your not at a good office to begin with. So all over just please call and let them know you're in pain okay.

  6. I think it's normal to have some pain after the crown is done...  Since it's been a week, I would just give your dentist a call to see what he thinks.

  7. umm it's normal for a little while but u probally wanna go back and have it checked just to be safe.

  8. ive had 2. both times there were times when it was  little sensitive until i got the permanent crown. if you would say it actually hurts and is a burden, go and get it adjusted/cleaned now. if its just a little annoying, probably not much can be done.

  9. Yes just "suck it up". I have had the same trouble every time I have had a temp crown.
