The tree is some type of elm, I'd say. Some of the leaves are oval, with raggedy edges, other leaves look like maple leaves, some are half and half, looks really weird?

  1. It might be due to disease or age.

  2. that sounds a little strange!

  3. Plant taxonomists have numerous terms to describe the characteristics of a plant.  Unevenly shaped leaves is one of those characteristics used to identify the specific plant.  Some trees have one shape in a young tree and different leaves in a mature tree.  Other characteristics include flower structure, color, and position, bark, twigs morphology, aroma, etc.

Some infestations of leaves by insects or fungi can also cause misshapen leaves.
