Is it normal for a white belt to become a black belt in 20 months?

at my school, my grandfather just purchased 20 months of training, and the instructer said at the end of the 20 months i should be a black belt. is that normal?

No. Never EVER join a martial arts institute where they can tell you a time frame of which you can become a black belt. In that case, they are in it for the money and most likely do not care for the students true martial arts ability. I suggest you find another Dojo.
