completely. kids are growing up way too fast nowadays, you'd expect that from a 13 yr old but not in this day and age

I tune my bf out, so I would think it's normal for an 11 year old as well.  I will admit, I feel kindof bad about tuning him out, but sheesh, he can go on and on about stuff.

Interestingly, my bf's kids don't tune me out.  They say it's because I listen to them, don't nag and actually expect them to comment on what I am saying.   That surprised me, I gotta tell you.  I didn't think I was doing anything different from anybody else, but I think it is also because I'm not actually their mom or Dad.

but, the silence is aggravating.  

Sometimes, I'll say something, like, "what should I do with this 50 dollar bill?"  and when they suddently come to attention..... I say, "so you were listening."  "Good, then empty the dishwasher."

of course it is they don't know any better but if they do and keep it up you should do something about it if they don't listen to what you say they grow up like brats and that is not good

Yes. Preteens always do that because they want a chance too speak, too, and it seems like the parents just keep talking, and talking, on and on and on......

Yes but you have to nip it in the bud now because if you don't in 2 yrs when child is 13 they will be a hellion.
