  1. I don't know if its normal or not but my 4 week old has done this since she was born. Sometimes she whimpers and her eyes flutter (REM sleep) and other times she grunts really loud for a long period of time because she's trying to push out a bowel movement. I don't think there's anything wrong but as always - keep an eye on it and call your doctor if something doesn't seem right.

  2. Yes, my 4 month old son started doing this in his second month, I think. It almost seems like he's having a bad dream? Sometimes I need to hold my hand on him, and sometimes that wakes him up and sometimes it doesn't, but it seems to soothe him back into a more peaceful sleep. Sometimes I actually have to wake him up before he realizes all is well and goes back to sleep. And sometimes, he seems shaken up and still whimpers afterwards for a while, and he only does that after having one of these seemingly "bad dreams." My other theory is that maybe he's having gas pains, sharp bowel movements.

  3. If your baby is drinking wine I think you have some major problems, whether he's sleeping or not. Maybe check him into AA.

  4. I think it is normal.....I remember both my kids (ages 10 and 13 now) doing that when they were babies.

  5. I asked my doctor about this because my daughter did it, she still does, actually at 9 months.  He said it is absolutely normal and almost all babies do it.

A great book to read about infants and sleep is, "Solving your child's sleep problems." By Dr. Ferber.  It's super informative, even if your baby doesn't necessarily have a sleep problem.

Also, a four month old baby is really too old to be swaddled in a blanket.

  6. i would suggest swaddling hin in a blanket so he feels secure. that might stop the waking up and crying.

  7. Completely normal. Sometimes, they are gassy and it makes them fussy.
