Is it normal for cats to twitch?

I have a 4 yr old cat and he's been twitching in his sleep since he was a kitten. It starts with his toes shaking then everything is: his tail, whiskers, mouth, his whole body twitchs basically. But, i have another cat who doesnt do that at all

  1. If this is something that has been happening all of his life and there are no other signs of illness, I would agree that it just him dreaming.  Some of my cats do this to.  If you are concerned, or other things change - never hesitate to ask your vet about it.  


  2. Oh yes... He's dreaming!   Have you ever woken up because your legs kicked out because you had a dream you were jumping?  Same thing.  They twitch from dreaming and it is nothing to be worried about.

    Just something to look at and think. "Awww!  How cute!"

    Not all cats' bodies respond while they are dreaming.  Every cat is different!

  3. My dog does that too. I wake her up when she does that then she falls back asleep and doesnt twitch. IS it often it twitches? or every now and then?

  4. Animals dream, too. It is natural for all mammals to dream. It is a healthy function of the brain. Without R.E.M. sleep (where dreaming takes place) the body would not survive.  

  5. hes probably just having trouble adjusting. some animals get used to being inside in days. some never do.
