I went through some stuff months earlier where I had terrible anxiety and depersonalization/derealization. Ever sense then I just haven't felt the same. Like i'm a different person.. or not in my body. Is this normal? Once my anxiety is gone will my depersonalization be gone?

Thanks.

  1. Depersonalization can last all your life if you do not walk through it with a counselor who knows how to walk with you. It is part of PTSD and needs specific healing skills.

  2. Correct, it's likely that once your anxiety remits, you will feel less depersonalized and the symptom will fade.

If it persists, it can be called a Depersonalization Disorder and is related to depression as well as to dissociative disorders.

The best way to deal with depersonalization is learn to accept it.  It is not dangerous and doesn't mean you're "crazy".  It can be a frightening symptom though.  It probably means that you are changing as a person, and are not used to yourself yet.

See a trusted therapist or doctor if the symptoms persist.
