I just got my top braces yesterday and today my teeth have been aching! Also it's extremely painful when i chew with certain teeth. I can't even eat anymore and they hurt so bad!

Is it normal for your teeth to ache after getting braces? How long will it take for the pain to go away?

  1. THE PAIN WON'T LAST FOREVER. TAKE  TYLENOL FOR IT OR ADVIL. IT GETS BETTER AFTER A COUPLE OF DAYS.

  2. Yes, unfortunately, your teeth will hurt after getting them on and, also, after each time they're tightened.  It usually takes two or three days for them to stop hurting.  Eat soft foods while you're hurting.  Good luck.

  3. Yep. It is normal, and it will probably last a week or so. Give it a few days, and if they are still bothering you, give your orthodontist a call. I'm surprised he/she didn't already tell you this!

    Good luck!

  4. YES!!! EXTREMELY NORMAL!!!! It takes like a week

  5. Yes it is normal for you mouth,teeth,or/and gum , to hurt b/c the wires are putting your teeth in place. hopes this will help!

P.S. i don't have braces but will son but my friend told me this. if you are wondering

  6. It is completely normal for your teeth to ache.

I feel your pain because i have braces and when they hurt; it kills!

It will probably last for about 1 week and maybe longer depending on how much your teeth change in between.

As much as it hurts; I am reassured that the braces work when my teeth start to ache because it means that they are readjusting and getting straightened bit by bit.

I suggest you eat softer foods because it hurts much less and avoid chewing on the teeth that hurt the most.

  7. Yes, it is very common for your teeth to severely ache after you get your braces put on. The pain will probably last for at least a week, maybe 2. As for the pain when chewing, you shouldn't eat anything that causes too much discomfort. I know it is a real inconvenience. However, here is a list of soft foods that will still give you proper nutrition.

    Breakfast: oatmeal, banana, yogurt, bread,

    Lunch: Tuna, Applesauce, PB&J, Soup

Dinner: Sloppy Joe, Cooked Spinach, Pasta, Chili

    Desserts: pudding, cookie dough, jello

Also, don't be afraid to try the baby food fruits, veggies, and desserts. They really do taste pretty good. (trust me, I ate them when I got my braces on!)

On a final note, to help ease your mouth pain, try buying a sore throat/mouth pain spray. Just spray it on the the area that hurts, and it will numb it. You can also try oragel.

I hope all of this info helps. And always remember, the end result of braces will remind you that they are worth the pain!!

  8. Oh yes they will from mild ot severe.. but ti usually goes away in a week or so. And every time they change the bars.. put on power chains, etc. And sometimes your gums will kind of itchy ache.. that is normal too. Your teeth are being yanked around your head.. it's normal. Sucking on ice can help.. use your wax, too! Or they will "stick" like to your cheeks and cause sores. Try soft foods for a few days. Let your body get used to the whole idea. And follow your Otho's instructions carefully... BRUSH WELL after EVERY meal. Believe me it's VERY worth it.

Just keep visualizing the end.. when you get them off and you have a near-perfect smile. It will be SO worth it!
