Ive had this greek tortoise for 1 year and a half and it still always tries to climb out. The enclosure has alot of floor space (small tortoise) and it has everything it needs. Does your tortoise also do this?

  1. tortoises do try to climb out of enclosures, they patrol their boarders and if they come across an obstacle they will try and see if they can climb over it, they know which direction they want to go in and as they are stubborn little reptiles they try to walk through all sorts, my big  Mediterranean spur thigh is so layed back she does not try to climb out but my herman who is a little whirlwind does, even in the outside pen which is 12ft by 20 ft she still tries to go up the sides, it is completely normal, tortoises can not see through Glass or wire mesh so if your enclosure is made of these they will try to walk through them as they do not see it as an obstacle, but tortoises will also sometimes angle them selves up walls to catch the suns rays, they are funny little things, best of luck with your tortoise honey.

  2. yes it is normal.  my son has many tortoises and turtles in an outside fenced in enclosure in the yard and they all try to get out, but we make sure they are safe and wont hurt themselves and they love being in their 'turtle pen'. if it is a clear terrarium they see land and try to get out. put up wood or a material so they cant see out so they dont try to.

  3. i agree with maya!

  4. yes it means he is cramped ..and needs more space. Make a pen outside on the grass or dirt and let him hang in the sun..bet he'll love ya more!

  5. Well there ment to be in the wild of course they will allways want more space, its just not natural for them to be in a cage

  6. I have a sulcata and she is always trying to get out and wander about. No matter how much space you give them they will still want to roam. Don't worry about, just keep an eye on it when you do let it roam so that it doesn't get lost!  Have fun!

  7. Try getting a gril tortoise :).
