Is it normal for rooibos (redbush) tea to make you go to the bathroom?

My boyfriend had a cup of rooibos tea and was peeing nonstop for 3 days, even disturbing his sleep. He hasn't had any since, he's so scared! Maybe it was a one-time thing, and now he will be used to it?

The person who gave it to him got it from Sudan and said it had "special herbs" in it that clean out your kidneys. Maybe rooibos tea from another geographic location would be better for him?

Never happened to me...

But I'm thinking that if the herbs are supposed to "cleanse" your kidneys, then it makes sense that you go to the bathroom more frequently. But for 3 days?? I don't recommend drinking it again just in case. That does not sound normal. Then again, some people's bodies are more sensitive to herbs than other people's.

Why not try some classic green tea or oolong tea. Those are always good and don't cause any problems.

I have been drinking rooibos for about 5 years.  This has never  happened to me.  I think that the "special herbs" added to tea was probably the culprit..This is only my opinion and I am not a doctor.
