Question:

Is it normal for teenagers to still have accidents?

My son is fifteen. Today I was driving him home when he started to fidget. When we got home, I saw that he had had an accident and wet his pants. He said it was nothing but it's the second time this month, both times in the car. Two months ago, we were at a football game. He went off to the bathroom, but when he came back, it was clear he hadn't made it. Should I be worried? Is this a big problem or just a normal part of growing up?

  1. that is really not normal. i'd say it's either psychological or physical. first take him to the doctor to see if there's anything physically wrong. if there isn't, i'd say it's some kind of nervous habit and would suggest to take him to a counselor

  2. ew is he an old man?? they tend to lose function of their bowels

  3. It can mean a number of things. Check with a doctor first. He may have an infection, or some type of strain on his bladder inside his body. Typically if it was psychological then he would be having accidents during the night. He's probably embarrassed it, so talk to him about it gently. Let him know you think he needs to be seen by a doctor. Also check for symptoms such as burning while using the bathroom, redness, soreness etc...

    Good luck

  4. No, it isn't normal.

I'd suggest getting his blood tested for diabetes because my 9 year old brother did the same thing, and it was caused by diabetes.

Or maybe he's having emotional problems?

  5. Thats not usualy normal. Make an appointment with the doc. Maby wets himself when hes nervous, and he might be nervous in the car and at the football game. Has anything traumatic happend latley?

  6. This is not normal. Does he have any psychological problems? Any traumatic events lately? Something may be bothering him that he isn't telling you.

  7. There could be a medical issue going on if this keeps happening.

I would make him an appointment at the doctors.

  8. I would echo what others have said.  Explore the medical options first.  If that yeilds no results, get a referal to a mental health professional.  If there was a significant event or change that happened around the time that this started that may be something to explore with a mental health proessional immediately, but if not explor the medical side first.

  9. No I don't think its normal for a teenager to have accidents frequently. But my elder brother used to and his stopped around 15 so maybe your son will stop soon.
