I just got my braces off today, and now my teeth are REALLY sensitive to heat and cold. I had hot soup, which hurt, and then ice water, which hurt more. Is this normal, and will it go away?

  1. As a dental assistant for two yrs, we deal a lot with ortho treatments.  Yes this is normal.  Your teeth have been under so much pressure for a long period of time, now there's nothing holding them back or moving them around.  This could last for about 7 to 10 days.  Also, you're having to learn how to bite down again bc there's no brackets in the way.  So biting feels different and can hurt.

I had braces on myself two years ago, and I remember that feeling.

  2. I heard it is normal, and it takes about a week or two to get used to it.

  3. i know i felt the same way after i got a filling in my tooth. When it was cold my tooth would hurt and feel all weird. Especially when i went from hot to cold. But it will go away. My teeth don't do it anymore. Don't worry about it!

  4. yeah i remember mine were really sensitive when i first got them off but it will go away within a couple of weeks or months. lol
