  1. Yes, there's a wide range of normal.  Average age is around 6.5 mos for a first tooth.  My DD had her first tooth at 3mos 29 days, and another 2 days later.  She started chewing on her fists and blankets and what not around 2.5 mos, and was fussy during nursing (the suction of nursing or drinking from a bottle can hurt a bit when they're teething).  She didn't drool a lot, but that's another symptom reported, as well as low-grade fevers.  Some babies will scream a lot from the pain, although mine seemed to be pretty mellow with her teething.

For some babies, it might only be a few days for the tooth to pop through, for other babies, it can take months.  Some get them one at a time, others will seem to get them in pairs or even four at a time.  Molars usually are more painful, but generally don't show up until around a year for the first set, although, again, a wide range is perfectly normal.

One thing that worked really well for my daughter was a small washcloth, dampened, then put in the freezer for her to chew on.  When she got teeth toward the back, I would take a toothbrush and do the same thing (that way she could get something into her mouth to chew on - it was kind of hard to shove a washcloth back there, I'd imagine).

  2. Babies start 'cutting' teeth at varying ages, and three months is perfectly within the norm.

I was breastfeeding my son and it hurt so bad I saw tooth marks on  my nipples when he was just 6 weeks old.  His first two teeth appeared fully, when he was a bit shy of his 2 month birthday so to speak, and he had a FULL MOUTH of teeth at 11 1/2 months.

    Symptoms:

    Drooling

    Fever

    A ruddy face (blushing like)

    Crankiness

    Crying and blistering screams

Constant need to suck / bite / chew on something (Zwieback is good)

    What works to soothe:

A car ride was the only thing that worked for mine :-), either that or a stroller ride on a bumpy sidewalk

    Good luck, and happy parenting!

  3. My daughter started teething at 3 months....drooling and crying and gumming everything.  The symptoms come and go. But her first teeth didn't pop all the way through until she was just about 6 months old....so it can be sometime.  She's still teething at 13 months...they do it everytime a new tooth is getting ready to come in.

  4. Yes, it's normal.  Mine were usually cranky and wanted to bite on everything- and also ran a low fever every time.  Tons of drool and looser stools from swallowing more usually happened too.  How long it lasts can vary- sometimes the tooth stops growing a bit and everything is fine again.  Sometimes it just takes until the tooth comes through.  Mine liked for me to rub their gums with a cold wet washcloth- it seemed to help.

  5. Some babies are BORN with teeth, so teething at three months is normal. My daughter started teething about that time. Some of the symtoms are:

    -temperature

-visible white specks on the gums (where tooth is about to pop through)

-runny nose (my daughter had this bad)

    -irritibility

-the baby constantly putting her hands in her mouth

    -a lot of drooling

Babies can teeth anytime for the first year of life, as well as into the next year after he/she is one year. You might get perhaps a month break of no teething here and there, but the teeth will pop through when they want too. My daughter is 8 months now and she has three bottom teeth and two more coming.

  6. my dd just cut her first tooth at eleven weeks to the day!!

her symptoms were lots of slobber, and then when it came through, fussiness i guess from pain..tylenol helped a lot; but check with your doc before you medicate your baby to see if it is ok...
