Is it normal for the doctor to ask for a urine sample from my 4 yr. old at her regular checkup?

It wasn't because of any problem or anything, the receptionist handed me a little container the minute we walked up to the desk to sign in. Just wondering if that's normal procedure for a child so young?

  1. I have never had to do that for either of my children at their checkups. Not even when they have been sick, the only time that happened was when my son was hospitalized. Some doctors may just be more thorough. But at least where I live they stopped doing that years ago. They also used to take your temperature at every appointment and they just started doing that again like 6 months ago!

  2. Yes that is normal, that is the age they start doing urine checks at the physicals.  My son was the same thing at 4 years old.  He looked at me strange that first time he had to pee in a cup but after that he was fine.  They look for the same things they would an adults, things like UTI's and such.

  3. Yes..of course it's normal.

  4. yes. they have to make sure they dont have an infection or anything
