Question:

Is it normal for the engine temperature to run warmer on hot days

I noticed on hot days like today, my truck temperature will run a little warmer as opposed to cooler days. It's a 94 Silverado. It's OK on the highway since it's getting more air to cool it off. But if I'm on the city streets, sometimes it can get around 200-210. My thermostat is rated at 195. My coolant level is good. I am going to flush out the radiator in a couple weeks. The condenser seems to be a little worn out. Many of the fins on it are damaged. Any ideas?

  1. Bent fins on the radiator or condenser does not allow air to flow thru easily and you need the air to flow thru in order to cool.   That is why we are careful not to damage the rad.  That is not worn out.  That is someone not giving a hoot when working in that area.

  2. It's having issue> Check the clutch fan might be bad>Flush the system & antifree can't hurt>

  3. you should notice  a slight change but nothing too severe. the damaged fins on the condenser could be your problem. if allot of them are damaged and blocking the air flow to the radiator. you can find a cooling fin comb to straighten them out and try that.

  4. Yes, but not really that much. If there is a marked increase on your "temp" gauge, turn off the engine and look at the front of your radiator to make sure nothing is obstructing the flow of air through the coils. If the engine overheats continually, you need to see a mechanic right away.

  5. no it should maintain certain operating temprature range and the fan should come on to help maintain it
