Is it normal for the first period to be light?

i just got my first period yesterday and it was light all day and it is light now too. can it happen that it will suddenly get heavy (i just want to avoid embarrassment)

also is it normal that it is light at first?

and if it is light is it really a period?

It is normal for your period to be light in the beginning.  When I first got mine I had a little spotting for two days and that was it.  It didn't get heavy until a few periods in.  If you are concerned wear pantyliners all the time so that hopefully you can catch any embarrassing situations and always bring extra supplies with you.  We've all had our periods come at the most inappropriate times.  Hope this helps...
