Question:

Is it normal for two fish from two different species to breed together?

i have a male betta and another fish i think is loaded with eggs. she looks fat and is really white around where my female betta had her eggs. but i'm not sure what species my other fish is. i do know that my male has made a bubble nest and they are doing the betta courting. will the babys survive?

  1. I don't know about bettas but minnows of differrent genera often interbreed and the offspring are quite fertile. Fishes don't seem to want to follow the genetic species concept. It's quite possible that you will have hybrid bettas. Good luck.


  2. If they have a different number of chromosomes, which is probably the case, the eggs will never be fertilized. Maybe the other fish is a mutant betta!
