Question:

Is it normal for your jaw to click?

Sometimes when I chew on my right side, my jaw clicks on that side.

I can easily move my jaw and click it, and I do this, ONLY when it feels uncomfortable and feels like it needs "clicking".

Is this normal?

Does this do any damage?

Any other info?!

  1. i dont think its bad, if im reading correctly, mine "clicks" too

  2. It's quite common-it's due to the end of your jaw kind of slipping in and out of place. It can be uncomfortable and sometimes painful but I don't think it does much longterm damage.

It can be because you are grinding your teeth in your sleep. If it's causing you problems, you should see a dentist about it. They often recommend splints to wear at night to correct it.

  3. i used to have this exact same problem! it never used to hurt me when i clicked my jaw...and it sort of developed into a habit like "oh now i FEEL like i need to click it"

any ways, i think its not that abnormal or anything...im not sure about any damage it does but thats one reason why is topped doing it.

i got my braces on and i kept on clicking my jaw.....and then when i had to get elastics i stopped it cause i wasnt physically able to click my jaw anymore, without it hurting...so then i just stopped completely.

you can always as your dentist about it...i think i rmemeber asking mine at one point, but i honestly cant remmeber what he said, he didnt make a big deal about it tho. it didnt seem like an issue to him.

so..i guess jsut try to stop clicking your jaw and control your urges...just incase this does cause some type of damage!

    hope this has helped

  4. Of course, your jaw just clicks back to where its supposed to be

  5. I have the same problem, and come to find out, that it's TMJ.

If you are chewing, it may be that it isn't "clicking," but a nervous habbit of "grinding the jaw." Or your jaw isn't perfectly aligned with the top. In some cases it can be a hairs width away from normal for you to hear a clicking sound.

My dentist said that it isn't much to worry about, unless you start having pain /with/ the clicking/grinding.

    Hope this helped! :D
