When I visited my bf's parents they forced us to sleep in separate bedrooms. He has other familymembers and he claims that his siblings have to sleep in separate bedrooms as well when they bring their partners. I can't help taking this personal as I know that his parents' house doesnt have 7 bedrooms as this separate-bedroom manners would require. Please help me out here.

  1. That's not Irish, just polite. My husband is Irish and I did this when we visited his parent's home (we met in Ireland while we worked for the same company and I was living in Ireland) . When we visited my parent's home in the States (I'm American born and raised) we did the same. Once we were married it became a different story, we all assumed we would sleep in the same room. But when you are just dating, even when we lived together, when we visited a parent's home, we slept in different rooms. That was just out respect for their home.

  2. that is normal

  3. its not specific to ireland...depends on how the parents feel about it

im irish and when my bf used to visit me from england hed stay in my room...my parents didnt mind at all

but when i went to stay in his parents house in england he had to sleep on the couch downstairs while i slept in his bedroom (stupid if ya ask me) but it was their house so their rules i guess!
