likes to play alone in her crib....

shes a very social girl & is always around other kids at daycare & LOVES IT!! when we get home she'll play with us too but when she gets tired & we put her in her crib I see her in her moniter just sitting thereplaying with her dolls or flippig through her soft books-she does this for about a 1/2 -1 hour without complaint before finally pasing out

I know alot of parents would LOVE this but sometimes it makes me a little worried - like I would think she wouldnt want to be all alone if shes so still awake enough to entertain herself(we put her down when she starts to show the tell tail signs of being sleepy-though)

  1. yes it is normal.  after a busy day at daycare she may want to unwind.  she can also be independent

  2. I'm sure it's fine.  If she's a social baby I wouldn't worry abou it.  Sometimes my 18-month-old just sits in his crib and talks to himself and plays with his stuffed animals - I can hear him on his monitor (so I guess I assume he's playing with his stuffed animals).  Sometimes it's in the mornign when he wakes up, sometimes we lay him down for a nap b/c he's so cranky and all he does is chill in his crib for awhile, and he's fine after that.  I've always thought that everyone needs their alone time - even babies and toddlers!  We all need our quiet time!

  3. As long as she does like to socialize with other people, shows normal separation anxiety with you, etc., it's okay.  She just must have good self soothing skills, and that's wonderful.

  4. I think it sounds great. She knows how to spend time alone. She is clearly not feeling abandoned or isolated. She probably is happy to have some down time, some alone time, some unwinding time and it's great that she can entertain herself so easily as well as calm herself and get ready for sleep. It sounds like you spend lots of time with her and her day is filled with people. I wouldn't be concerned in the least.

  5. well i don't have a video monitor but i know that my son will stay awake for up to an hour before falling asleep too, he turns a year in a week. he will also happily play in his crib for 1/2 hour or so when he wakes up from bedtime or naps

  6. It's very normal! Most babies/toddlers are like that.

In my experiences at daycares, many babies/toddlers play, make noise, even complain before they fall asleep. A lot of centers pat them to sleep for that reason. To keep them calm and make sure they do not keep other children awake. Though, in my opinion, it's important for a child to learn how to put him/herself to sleep once they hit that toddler stage, because it encourages independence.

I think your daughter is fine :) She is probably happy to have a little bit of alone time after all that stimulation all day.

  7. there is nothing wrong with a lil one entertaining herself or himself it just goes to show that they do not always need to be held or what not to be happy and care free be glad that you lil one is like this they just like us need their time alone or their down time just like a adult does it will be ok just let things happen dont fret to much i no it is natural but it is also ok good luck

  8. My four months old sometimes plays happily for an hour on her own, too. (l*****g her teddy-bear, playing with her hands etc.) I think we are just blessed with happy babies.

  9. my daughter is exactly the same... except she doesnt really play with the toys in her crip... she babbles to herself and throws things around her crib and laughs. Sometimes when we are lucky she will do this in the mornings when she wakes up early as well... i would guess they just want alittle alone time.
