  1. It's normal if you need to go to town and that's your only mode of transport. ...Duh.

That's like saying 'is it normal to walk ten miles to the nearest water source?'

No, not in the Western World with running taps and water avaliable easily, but in the third world/developing countries, it is the norm.

    It's all relative.

  2. how can it be up-hill both ways???  shouldnt it be up one way and down the other

  3. Yes its normal.  Agree with above it cannot be uphill both ways.

    Are you just unfit ?

  4. Whether it's normal or not, it's certainly laudable.

  5. Who cares if it is normal? I am the only student at my college who cycles there, meaning that it isn't normal, but I don't care. Just go ahead and do it. It's good exercise.

  6. no it's very strange , very strange indeed , it's one and half hours maybe two so it would be better to use public transport , not sure of the figure for normal ( usual , acceptable ) but I think that is high (15.6 miles) . At a guess I would say 8/ 9  miles would be the highest " normal " mileage .  Maybe better using the term average mileage or acceptable limit to cycle . I understand , I think . Mostly uphill both ways I don't understand do you return to a different place .

  7. its hardly strange .....

  8. What a strange question. I see by the up hill both ways comment your being a cheeky monkey!

So... I consider anywhere from 2.4 to 15.5 miles normal, outside that range is an aberration. Finally, the answer is 42.

  9. Not if you only live a mile or so from town

  10. You must live in an Escher drawing.

    HTH

  11. I'd say it's normal to cycle into town, but cycling back out of town would just be nuts.   One should always utilize a hover craft when returning home.

  12. It sounds like very normal behaviour for cyclists who live 15.6 miles from town.

Do you mean that there are uphill sections of route in both directions?  If so, therewill probably be downhill sections of route in both directions, too.

    :)

  13. What is normality?

Cycling is good for you get over it

  14. yeah, thats fine aslong as you don't have any other mode transport. plus it keeps you fit so its good to cycle that far.

it can be uphill both ways as there will most prob be lots of downhills on the way there and back so therefore they will account for uphills if that makes sense.

  15. Its not normal for it to be uphill both ways. but 15.6 miles is very do able for the average person

  16. It's not bad. The fact that it's 'mostly up hill, both ways' intrigues me though... I'd expect that if it was mostly uphill one way, it'd be mostly down hill the other!
