  1. uh, no I suggest learning to be more comfortable in the water. I would say it isn't OK to freak out anytime that you're in the water.  You may be jeopardizing your safety and the safety of others.

  2. depends...

    how long have u surfed

    r u a noob or a bit better

if you said more than a year to my first one you r really chicken. otherwise it's fine

if you said better, than yes if you said noob then no

  3. Not really.  If you're just in the learning stage, it's normal to feel some element of fear.  However, keep in mind that catching a 4 to 5 foot wave on a longboard is different from catching a 4 to 5 foot wave on a shortboard.  It can be a bit more intimidating, especially if you are not used to the longboard.  For some reason the extra length makes it a bit more challenging.  So, to answer your question, you're not chicken so just hang in there until you get used to surfing head high waves with your longboard.  You're going to find it easier and funner as you gain confidence.

  4. Ha, I totally freak in 4 foot waves on my longboard! I've only been surfing for a couple of years, so I'm definitely still in that beginner stage.

But I feel like when I first started, I had less fear and I went out to try and tackle those larger waves. It's after the first few times of getting completely pounded that I realized the power of the ocean when you're on a huge board, and now I totally freak when I feel like an approching wave is way over my skill level.

    Just gotta keep practicing!

  5. totally normal.  great advice above.  those 4 to 5 footers look like nothing from the shore, but once you're out there they can kick your tail.
