Is it normal to get annoyed by trash pickers - the trash bin diggers?

they dig into the trash bins and it always makes noise and visibly disgusting scenes to see.

I dont mind them picking trashes and making money of it.. yes its also good for the environment.. but I just want them to be quieter and less noticeable with what they are doing for living.

Why are they so aggressive and impolite? and who allows them to mess around the garbage bin in residential area? Aren't they supposed to be quiet all the time as if they don't even exist?

I am sorry to say this but honestly they are annoying.

  1. work on your compassion. meditate on there but for for the grace of God go I

  2. Annoyances are what make us human.  You aren't wrong because you feel that way, but perhaps not very compassionate.

Trash pickers are like stray cats.  If they aren't in a residential area, try to ignore them, but if they are digging through your trash at home- you may want to call some authority to control the situation.  It is a very sticky situation.

Like a stray cat, if you leave them something, they may come back.  But, if you feel it is within you to go the extra mile, you might look in your phone book for a few resources, such as shelters, and food pantries, and put them on a notecard for them.  Another kind thing you could do, is to seperate your recyclyables and leave them out so that they can easily take them and be on their way.  In that way you will get some satisfaction that you are helping someone else, and they will be able to continue going about their buisness.

Not all homeless are drunks or addicts, some people just fall on hard time.  Some even have homes, but are looking to support themselves, and sometimes have children.

I am sure you can find a solution for the problem, whether calling authorities, or extending a helping hand.  The choice is yours.  :)  Maybe the individual(s) will be less agressive and impolite if they see that you are kind and considerate.

  3. Find out if it is legal in your area to garbage pick or dumpster dive. Some municipalities do not allow it. If someone is picking through your personal house trash, call the police immediately. They could be getting credit card numbers and other personal ID info of yours.
