I had major abdominal surgery last week and since I've been home I've been getting almost migraine-like headaches across my forehead.....is this normal after having General Anesthesia?

  1. Since you went under last week, the drugs from the anesthesia are likely out of your system by now. However, whatever prescribed pain pills you are taking now could definitely cause headaches. Take some ibuprofen or tylenol with your pain meds to lessen the headache. Call your doctor and ask him if it's ok to take these over the counter meds. He may not want you to since they can damage the kidneys (ibuprofen) and liver (tylenol). If you can't reach him, ask a nurse at his office or clinic. Also, since you probably still feel pretty yucky, you may be less inclined to drink and eat properly. Dehydration especially can cause bad headaches. Get well soon!

  2. General Anesthesia stays in the body for a lot longer than people think.  Plus you are also stressed.  And....on top of that you are taking pain medication which can also cause migraine-like headaches.  Since you are already calling your Dr about the stitch popping go on ahead and mention the headaches.  I actually would recommend that you keep a tablet by your bed that you can write things down on so that when you do get a chance to speak to your Dr you can address everything you need at one time.  You also need to speak to your FAMILY and EXPRESS to them that they need to help you more and that you are now experiencing headaches and a bit more relaxation and "help" would really make your "recovery" better.

You are always in my thoughts and prayers!!!

    Peace & Love  :)

  3. Yes I think so. I've had a few general anesthetics and always felt pretty rough for a couple of weeks after, mostly flu like symptoms such as headaches, achiness etc. If in doubt though check with your doctor.
