Is it normal to get some play in your drive sprocket?

iam just changing my drive sprocket on a 2004 crf250r, ( the small sprocket off the engine). the old one i think was a honda sprocket which fits fairly tight but has a little bit of movement when its bolted down.

i just bought a RENTHAL aftermarket sprocket set, and this sprocket has 3-4 times as much slop as the last one made by honda. maybe because it is too generic it fits the 250 x and 250 r along with the cr250 2 stroke. so i need to know if i should run this and if its just going to beat the h**l out of my chain and or wont be very efficient at transfering power to the rear tire.

  1. I think you might have the wrong sprocket. There shouldn't be any play in it, at least not any side to side. Is it doing this without the chain on it? If you do run it, be prepared to have your chain skip, and possibly crack you case, which would cost you alot in the long run. Check out www.rockymountainatv.com It is for both bikes and atvs, I only know it by that becuase I ride an at. You can enter you bike, year, brand, and it will pull up everything that fits your bike.
