Is it normal to happen on a job interview?

The manager scheduled the interview at 8:30pm when the whole restaurant was full, and things were sooo busy, how weird, I show up five minutes early, right before I came, I called to let him know I was there and he said to come back for my interview in an hour because he gave my interview time to someone else. I come back in an hour, five minutes early, the manager is standing outside blocking the door, I had to wait about 30 seconds for him to move away from the door so I could get in to the interview, he didn't say who he was , I thought he was just some person standing in front of the door , so when I'm inside of the restaurant waiting, one of the employees says that it's him outside so I go back out and he spends about 15 seconds on the interview that I drove 30 minutes to and shockingly he asks me the same 3 questions that he asked me on the phone, and then he shakes my hand and says h**l call me next week, and he didn't call.

Is this normal?

This was for a waitstaff job, what was this whole thing all about?

  1. Does it sound normal, no, or at least it shouldn't be.  Managers need to realize that not only are they judging who gets hired for a job, but the applicant (like you) see how they are in the hiring process.  This is just my opinion here, but this restaurant sounds unorganized, mismanaged and not worth your time, seeing as you spent most if already just getting a 15 second interview.  I don't know of any restaurant who would set an interview during a "peak time of business", that make absolutely no sense at all.  I wish you the best of luck finding a place of employment who values you and your time when you show up for a scheduled interview.

  2. Maybe normal for him but definitely unprofessional.  Consider yourself lucky the jerk didn't call.

  3. I have been in very similar interviews in places like petsmart.

I think its because another person already "got the position" maybe he liked the other persons look or age better. Or the person had more experience. and the manager didnt even bother with you.

  4. I personally wouldn't want to work in such a disorganised stressfull place. I worked in a restaurant and it was nothing like this, I didn't have an interview but when people did they organised it when the restaurant wasn't going to be busy or was shut. keep looking around and don't waste your time waiting for them to call, they're clearly not going to be loyal to you if they gave your interview time to someone else.

  5. thats unfair and messed up. no its not normal.
