Question:

Is it normal to have a dull headache when first starting birth control?

I've been on it for almost a week now. It's low-dose bc (i'm on generic; kariva, also known as mircette). It just seems like I've been having an (almost constant) dull headache. Is this because of my body adjusting to the new hormones? It's bearable, but a bit annoying. I'm wondering if anyone else has had this? Other than that, no other bad side effects (so far). So I'm willing to give it a while. My doc says to wait up to 3 months to let my body fully adjust. Any input/advice appreciated. thx :)

  1. This is quite a normal side effect don't worry too much it will settle down

  2. It's a common side effect. But: some have found that taking birth control pills causes migraines. They'll then have migraines for the rest of their lives, even after stopping birth control pills. This happened to me and a few of my friends. Keep this in mind in deciding whether or not to continue the pills. There are plenty of other kinds of birth control out there.

  3. yea...after starting my bc, i started getting terrible migraines, gaining weight, and i got really depressed...we waited 5 months and then they switched me to a different kind b/c i wasn't getting any better

    good luck!

  4. yes, i had them when i started
