  1. you ARE suppose to brush your gums but if you do not floss it can cause them to hurt too and you might have to get a gingivectomy which is where they cut a part of your gums away and they grow back to heal. So do brush your gums and floss everyday!!

  2. For YOU it is probably normal. Its called racial pigmentation and many African-Americans will have black pigment on their gums  , as well as darker Hispanics etc. Don't be scared and don't worry too much about it but check with your dentist. Look in the mouths of your mom and dad ... chances are they have it too!

  3. You should tilt your brush into the area where your teeth meet your gums and gently brush/massage them too minimize tartar buildup, which everyone gets. Do your gums bleed when you brush? Bleeding indicates a raging infection. My gums hurt when I floss after not flossing for a while, but pretty soon they don't. I think it's better to gently brush your gums then not to. When you say black, do you mean black like charcoal or black like the color of your skin? Some people have darker gums than others due to genetics, but black like charcoal could indicate some serious periodontal issues. If it were me, I'd ask my dentist, who will definitely know more about this than your average person.

  4. idk.usually the only people i see with black gums is people that smokee ithink you should have that check out a.sap
