Is it normal to have severe pain and not be able to open mouth?

I had an upper molar pulled yesterday and this morning the pain is so bad i cant even open my mouth it didnt hurt like this when i went to bed . also the clot is there so i dont think i have dry socket

  1. its not normal, though not uncommon, depends on how hard or easy the extraction was, sever pain MAY mean infection developed, check ur dentist for antibiotic therapy, dont rinse strongly, dont check the wound with ur tongue, finger or tissue

  3. I hope to God that the Dr gave you an RX for some antibiotics...if he/she didn't get on the phone NOW and call in for some. I made that mistake with my poor daughter and after a day she had a wicked infection and looked like Mr Potato Head from the swelling. She had to have a drain inserted in the socket to drain out all the pus.

    so you have to visit your dentist again

    until that you can take

    augmentin 0.5 g every 8 hour

    ibuprofen 400mg  SOS

  5. The severe pain you are having isn't normal and the Dentist should have given you a pain killer and antibiotics.
