Is it normal to have some water left in the bottom of the dish washer when it is done running?

I noticed a small amount of water in the bottom of the dishwasher today as I was unloading it, is this normal? Or is the drain clogged. If there was a clog, I would think there would be a lot more water left in the bottom. I have run the garbage disposal, but there is still water.

  1. Not normal

  2. Draino NO it will ruin the d/w read the book if you have it a little water is normal to keep the pump wet so it will not dry out some d/w hid the water with plastic sheilds and some do not all depends on the model and type.

  3. CK. THE DRAIN HOSE GOING TO THE D/WSHR,MAKE SURE IT HAS A LOOP IN IT,SOUNDS LIKE YOUR HAVING WATER TO DRAIN BACK FROM THE DESPOSAL ,IF YOU DON'T HAVE A WAY TO STOP THE WATER FROM RUNNIG BACK THIS CAN HAPPEN.BUT ITS ALSO NORMAL TO HAVE JUST A TAD OF WATER IF YOU DONT USE THE HEAT CYCLE.

  4. There should be no water in the bottom.

    No drano! Call for service.

  5. Most dishwashers have a check-valve on the pump output, and if junk accumulates on the valve or the seat, it will allow water to drain back into the dishwasher.

One trick that might help avoid the problem is to make sure the drain hose goes up as high as possible under the sink, before it arcs downward to connect to the drain connection or garbage disposal.   The extra height will help prevent the dishwasher from siphoning water back out of the disposal unit.
