  1. Yes, that is about average.

  2. The normal yardage for  a 6 iron is from 150 to 165 yards. Driving range yardages are often suspect because the majority of clients are novices or people who do not play often. So if the yardage markers are placed shorter than the yardage indicated, it is an enticement to come back. To put the 200 yard 6 iron in perspective very few of today's professional golfers can hit a six iron that distance.

  3. When its hot, its goes further. Other than that, you hit RIGHT on the spot.

  4. Is that all? You need to work out or something, All my friends hit 9 iron 215.

  5. its possible u just hit it flush on the sweet spot. clean contact makes a good difference in distance.

  6. depends on what kind of clubs you have,  tour clubs have a different loft angle so a regular 7 iron would go 150 on avg where a tour club would go 160 all the lofts are slightly different, the kind of clubs you have makes a difference. typically a standard 6 iron will go 160 yards, varying of course for player strengths, club speeds, swing and  height, and that is whats expected. personally I'm not a long hitter my 6 goes 150-155 and I can cut it to about 145. I suspect the driving range is not accurate. It was mentioned above that they place them shorter to entice players and its true they do. I would be willing to say wind plus that would make you believe you hit it that far but don't trust it, its not accurate. there are times when theres a stiff wind but only at an elevation above the tree line and you cant feel it.

  7. That is normal 5 iron distance.  Chances are the range you were at did not have the signs set right for where you were hitting.

  8. depends on what you do. i am very athletic and weightlift so i can hit my 6 around 200, but 200 is good. i dont think the average person can hit it like that.

  9. Ok so not all tour clubs are lofted to go further... That is a myth and totally not true.  Clubs are fitted to the players, they just have better technique and that is why they hit it further.

As for your statement, like everyone else said you probably just hit it pure.  But there is another possibility, and that is that maybe you had better extension at the top of your swing, or maybe you rotated more, or maybe your wrists were coming through better.  All this is technique that varies from day to day for the average player.  Just somethings to consider, take the average of how far you hit your clubs, not how far you can hit it when you hit it pure, and also make sure that your other clubs are going the same distance as before.

    Hope this helps

  10. yes. If that is your shot. My thought is you flushed it. Perfectly. Don't play this shot on the course though. As you said, for you this is not normal. Stick to your 170 distance on the course. Nice shot though. Someday you will hit it this far. I can hit my 6i 225 off of a tee, with a high arcing draw. The problem is i never know how far it will draw. Straight everytime it flies 172-178. this is when i put a swing i can repeat every time on it. Sure i can muscle up, but then the miss is way farther off course if i don't flush it. I say nice shot again, and if it was a couple, that's even better. Stick to your game on the course though.

  11. its the placing of the tee...

  12. Was there some wind?

Also, driving ranges measure their yardages from a certain spot, were you teeing off from the front of the tee box?

  13. your just good man. You probably just had nothing on your mind and were relaxed
