I am 14 and have my period for about 1 and a half years. Its not regular at all. I have had my period maybe 10 times. I am not sexually active. Is there something wrong with me? My mom had problems and was not supposed to be able to conceive. Could that be hereditary?

  1. im 13 and my moms a nurse. When your younger you periods arent alwalys something you can set you watch too. i can be hereditary but give it a few years and see what happens. Mine period the same way so give it time

    hope i helped

  2. Well I don't know about the hereditary thing ,but yes its normal.I started having mine in 5th grade and it went off and on until 8th grade.Different girls have different time schedules.

  3. When I started, I was 13 and I was super irregular.  So, I got on the pill.  Not saying you should to regulate you.  Just stating my personal experience.

  4. It's normal for your period to take years to become regular. I'm 14, my period started at 11, and I just got regular around my birthday.

Possible causes are stress or irregular sleeping habits. Being sexually active won't necessarily make your period late (unless you're stressing about being pregnant), but it could cause it to become more heavy.

I don't know whether fertility problems are hereditary, but I want to say they're not. If you're really worried, bring it up to your doctor at your next check-up and ask about ways to help your period become more regular- your doctor could suggest diet changes or birth control. Ask your mom a little more about her health problem and Google it just to be sure.

  5. i'm 16 and my period is irregular.  we were talking about this one time in biology. my teacher said that she didn't get one until she was 29 and wasn't suppose to have kids, but she had 3.  my teacher said that it just could be your body's natural cycle to have it four or five times a year. and a lot of times your period wont regulate itself for a while.  i might go on birth control just to help regulate it, but i'm not to concerned because my cramps are not very painful and it's not VERY heavy.  if you're concerned talk to your doctor.

  6. I don't think it's a problem.  I've had my period longer and it's still wicked, wicked irregular.

  7. It is possible that your body is still trying to regulate itself. However, in light of your mom having problems there might be something going on there. It is impossible to diagnose through the internet, so it's best to schedule an appointment with your doctor. If you have a pediatrician, that is a good place to start, as they usually deal with problems with girls your age. If there is a need, they will refer you to a gynecologist. You should talk to your mom and let her know what's going on, too. Good luck.
