1. Yeah :< Try wearing sunglasses, they're pretty much the same thing.

    UV protection sunglasses ~~~

  2. Wear normal sunglasses with UV protection; in the time period of a few hours to a day your pupils will return to normal functioning as the dilation drops wear off.

Dilation drops temporarily relax the muscles of your pupils, meaning that they're always wide open and letting all the light in the world into your eyes. Don't worry they wear off.

  3. The purpose of the iris ( the part of the eye that creates the pupil in the middle) is to expand and constrict as needed to control the amount of light entering the eye. When a patient's eyes are dilated, the iris temporarily expands very wide and loses the ability to constrict when the eye is exposed to bright light. This over exposure of light entering the eye is what causes discomfort. You are closing your eyes to control the amount of light entering the eye. This is normal.

I am dissapointed, though, that your eye doctor did not provide you with disposable dark sunglasses after your dilation. Hopefully, this was just an oversight. The next time you go in for an exam and dilation make sure they provide these to you after your dilation.
