  1. Yes, though $50 seems about double the normal cost.

  2. I would never.. pay 50 dollars

here is what i would do though

go to the local sheriff department and for 5 dollars the will run your driver license.. and print out any criminal history .. that easy!

why don't you people understand that this is the same thing..just at a cost of five dollars..?

edit.: well I guess I have never lived some where so GHETTO that criminal back ground checks are even thought of! good luck to all you!

  3. Yes, although $50 is a little high for my area ($25-40).  Some states require that the application fee be based on the actual processing costs (credit report costs, court records searches, etc.).

Application fees are usually non-refundable -- even if you are denied.  However, some states do require the application fees be refunded if the rental unit is not actually available to rent (i.e. landlord rented unit to another applicant).

Google your state's landlord tenant laws regarding application fees.

  4. Yes...your responsible for the backround check fee as well as a credit report fee.  Maybe the $50.00 includes both.

  5. YES, that's the norm, why should the seller lose money for ever crazy person who walks through door.  It also gets rid of anyone who isn't serious.

I know someone who showed up after a place was rented but she was luckly because the guy NEVER showed or moved in....  This was a house and the guy didn't do a background check and you paid the deposit the day you move in.  This happen to him several times!  You won't believe the people who apply for apartments and don't show.
