My cat Lucile and I do indeed enjoy a spot of tea every now and then..it's a great time for conversation. She tells me about her current pursuits and I share mine with her as well. It's a jolly old time. Lucile is currently starting a garden where she'll grow carrots and celery...yum!

Yes. It shows love. Cats have feelings too, and they respond in actions to your talking. :D

yes...i talk to mine all the time and occassionally they answer back with a "sassy meow"....they are talkers.

When I had cats I spoke to them like they were people, and I do to my dogs as well.  I'm positive my neighbors think I'm nuts, but I really don't care.  I was sure that the cats understood me, and I'm also sure that my dogs do.  And, I believe it helped my daughter learn her pleases and thank-yous, and also how to treat animals with respect - as she was growing up.

So, I guess it's normal for pet owners, but people who do not have pets are more likely to think we're crazy.  Too bad - it's their loss, right?

I talk to both of my cats all the time, and they chatter back.  They are social animals and even if they don't know what you are saying, I am sure we are very amusing to them.

Absolutely!  My boyfriend's from India where they look at cats like vermin because they constantly have to shoo the stray ones away from the cows on their farms.  (the cats try to steal the milk right from the cow's t***s! )  no lie!    so..... when I brought my cat home I didn't know what he would do or how he would treat her.  But now, you should see this Indian man talking to this cat every morning at 5:30 am when she gets him up to feed her!  Oh my god, it's like they are having their own conversation with her mowing back at him- I swear it goes on for a good ten minutes each and every morning!

I talk to mine.  They answer.  Sometimes, it's talking back, in response to "get off the counter!", sometimes it's an expectant "meow!" in response to "who's hungry?"
