Is it normally possible to prolong my UK visa if I was only approved to stay for 6 months as a visitor?

I'm a Chinese citizen, I have applied for a UK visa but the embassy approved my visa as a UK visitor good only for 6 months of stay.

The question is: Is it possible to re-apply and prolong my visa in UK w/o the need of coming back to my country? Can I just a find an embassy there in UK and re-apply?

no, you cannot extend your stay while in the UK, one must leave after visa has expired, so therefore , if you would like to stay longer in the UK ? i suggest you ask for a longer visa before going there. this rule applies to most countries for visas.
