Is it not proper etiquette to order at restaurants and ask to have plate split??

I am not cheap, but sometimes, I am not too hungry and my girlfriend is "tiny" and does not eat much. Many times, we try to watch what we eat and ask to have plates split. We also do not like to waste food and don't like taking leftovers. Is this weird, wrong, or not good manners??

  1. Seeing as restaurants are known to give out EXTRA LARGE sized proportions, it's smart really. If someone considers that "bad manners" you should teach them your technique. Really, if you're not gonna eat the leftovers, and the portions are too big, why order too much on purpose. If it was a business lunch, that's the only time I could see it being akward. But out to eat with friends, family, or together, it's smart.

  2. They might charge you extra... I see no problem with it, myself.

  3. I do this all the time...especially if we are having coctails! I think appropriateness depends on the restaraunt. I personally wouldn't do it at a 5 star, but most of the time, I don't really care! Portions are way too big!

  4. Most of your resaurants are now offering to spit a meal. Sometimes they charge you a little extra for the plate and cost of washing it. The most I have ever been charged was $5.00 but that also included 2 extra side dishes and half of a ribeye steak.  It is fine to do.
