  1. how are they shams? how do you judge if they are a sham? people train extremely hard for these things- i'd like to see you try training as hard as these olympians, then you come backand say "it's a sham"- you're the sham

    edit-

why take away the china= good at sports?

they may train from the age of 2 yes, but its a different life to yours. thats their dream thats what they want to do. you have not experienced their culture so you wouldnt know what its like- you only have an outsider's view which is positioned by western media to find it... disgusting and like slave labor. sometimes it might appear like that, but other times....

    edit-

when you say olympic spirit- you are meaning that you want them to be inexperienced?...

olympics have adapted to the world today, lately we have wanted to see the best of the best thats why it changed. we could have an amateurs olympics, but would it be as exciting? even back in the old old old ancient olympics, the athletes trained for the olympics. now... we have improved farming methods.. we can train more. i love watching rafael compete and the dream team. not necessarily to win but because its such a brilliant show of talent. and im proud and amazed at the perfection the dvers, gymnasts, archers etc can reach by the amount of work they put into thier sports

  2. I disagree. Baseball and Softball aren't pulling a global audience. Basketball is played worldwide and despite the US dominating it, is still popular with audiences internationally. And why would you drop mens beach volleyball, but not womens? It's not going to happen, sorry.

  3. Yeah they should start dropping sports that don't convey the olympic spirit because BMX definitely doesn't.

  4. Those are some of my favorites.  What about lame ping pong, badminton, and shooting?

  5. I'm glad softball and baseball are going because they bore me senseless.

But I have a real problem with Tennis being in the Olympics. I love tennis, it is one of my favourite sports to watch, but not as an olympic sport. I think it has to do with the fact that is so professional now and soo much money, and that puts me off seeing the usual suspects win at the olympics so they can put a gold medal in their cabinet.

  6. I love tennis, but I agree it should go because any tennis player would rather win a grand slam than an Olympic medal.  The Olympics should be the pinnacle of any sport.  Therefore, same goes for football....the under-23 rule is an absolute joke, either allow a full-strength team to play (which FIFA won't allow for fear of the Olympics overshadowing the World Cup) or get rid of it altogether.  Get rid of the equestrian since the horse does most of the work for little reward (unless the horse's life-ambition is to win an Olympic medal).

  7. Interesting that you would list true SPORTS while ignoring those silly little parlor games like 'ping-pong' and badminton...and arbitrarily-judged performance arts like gymnastics.

  8. As long as they drop all of the sports that China always wins because they start training their 'babies' when they're 2 years old. For example, let's get rid of Badminton, Ping Pong, Mens and Womens gymnastics, and platform diving.

On second thought, why don't we add some more that are relevant to today? Here's a few thoughts:

Grand Theft Auto matches, Slap the Crack Ho, the Bail Jump (gold medal automatically goes to the winner of the Slap the Crack Ho contest), Show off and act like a self absorbed low life rapper (this years' inaugural award goes to Usain Bolt).
