Is it odd that I'm a Deist and read both the Bible and God Delusion? They're next to each other on my shelf?

za: If you are proselytizing by that comment, don't or the other way toward Atheism, don't.

Everyone else: I have a great many Anthropology books, because it was my major. I also have the Mayan Popol Vuh (the Mayan Bible if you'd like), books on ancient Egyptian Myths, native American Myths.

  1. I think it means you are probably intelligent and open-minded. I hope that's what it means because my bookshelf has a mixture of things on it too.

  2. I don't think so - but then I face the same dilemma.  :)

  3. "They're next to each other on my shelf?" Careful! You could start a house fire!!!   :)

I am a Pagan and I am reading Carl Jung's Synchronicity, the Koran, and a book on statistical coincidence simultaneously (I stack them by the door because I read on the balcony).

One of the signs of intelligence is the ability to hold more than one contrary idea in your mind at once.

  4. Not really. I'm a Christian, and own a copy of the Satanic Bible, as well as many other non-Christian and anti-Christian texts. I have books on atheism. Any personal library worth having will contain books from many different perspectives.

  5. Rejoice that you have both books, and shelves to put them on.  But why stop at Deism - go all the way!

  6. Nope.

I know a person who can beat that. She has a copy of the Bible next to Hitler's Mein Kampf

  7. I own a bible and a koran

Both are next to each other, along side 'The Origin Of Species', 'The God Delusion', etc.

  8. It' not odd. It's pretty typical of most deists to have both theistic and non/atheistic books on their shelves.

  9. Add the satanic bible to the collection, just to confuse visitors.

  10. A fellow deist!

Doesn't sound odd to me, but then I like to hear all perspectives on things.  "Feed your head" in the words of Grace Slick.

  11. Not odd at all. The Bible, Al-Qur'an and Bullfinch's Mythology are side by side on my shelves of books.
