Is it ok for a Boss/Owner and worker to engage in "non work" activities?

Basically, I got my girlfriend a job working for a friend of the family who owns a restaurant and club. She's 20 years old, hes 44. He now (after work) makes her cocktails and some days plays tennis with her and they do other physical activities. He also on certain nights invites all the employees to another club for drinks and dancing, again shes 20 years old...They "dance" but I have no idea of what goes on during this "harmless they say" dancing. This guy is an alcoholic and used to be addicted to cocaine, my girlfriend has a problem with cocaine and I'm really worried that this man is a bad man and to be giving drinks to a 20 year old girl and to be acting the way he does bothers me. My girlfriend never really had a father figure so I look at it from that stand point, but I don't trust this man. He gets drunk every night to the point of passing out, and now, they are off together playing tennis, I feel left out. I got her the job, The owner was one of my best friends and now its just changed and Its hard to explain. What do I do?

  1. just think would you do these sort or similar sort of things with your boss it will help you see it from her point of view. And if you suspect something ask her politely and she should understand and like it as you are being honest with her!! good luck mate!

  2. Yes, it is ok for a boss to be friends with a coworker outside of the office. Age and s*x have nothing to do with it.

If the guy is into coke and you think it could have a bad impact on her, let her know how you feel. Maybe that's the last thing on her mind.

If you feel left out, go play tennis with them. Invite a 4th and play doubles.

Make sure she knows the real him and not the him she's getting to know. If it gets really bad, ask her to quit - the job, the tennis, the nightclub, whatever you see as the biggest threat.

  3. WOW, why did you get your gf a job with a guy you know uses drugs and drinks and you know your gf has a problem with both of those things. He is probably all over her,and the joke is on u

  4. Time to tell the old f**t to pay up. He didn't think the ho was free did he.

  5. I would ask some other co-workers of hers (discretely) if the boss does this with them. Since you know they both have a cocaine problem they might be using the "tennis" excuse for chances to get blown out after work. I would be very suspicious about all of this also, While its not odd for a boss and an employee to hang out after work. It seems they are taking it a bit overboard with the underage drinking, dancing, "physical" activities. You know alcohol and cocaine can be very dangerous and an older man would be able to take advantage of a younger girl. The father figure role usually gets abused in a situation like this. I would be very skeptical.

  6. AHH, so you are jealous!  Her age is not a problem, they are both consenting adults and playing tennis is not usually considered an erotic activity.  Why does it not bother you that all the employees are invited?? Doesn't seem to be anything untoward here other than in your mind.  Grow up, if he is giving her attention you don't want to, then maybe you should change the way you act toward her. Perhaps if you played tennis and danced with her, she might pay more attention to you.  Are you sure she knows she is your "girlfriend" or just a friend?????
