My guess is no.  I'm a vegetarian and although I have an irrational fear of spiders, I don't personally kill them.  Then again, I don't rescue them either.  I'm too scared to go anywhere near them, so I get someone else to catch and release them for me.

Of course it is.  This goes back to the question of conscientious objectors during the Great War.  The Board would ask objectors what they would do if they caught a German raping their sister.  If they would kill them in those circumstances, then why not at war?

No. We avoid meat and fish because an animal has been killed so we'd be a bit hypocritical to kill spiders. Just because they're not cute or furry doesn't mean we've got a right to kill them.

Killing spiders seems to go against the whole ethos of veganism.

Veganism is about minimising animal suffering, and it's more than a diet, it's a lifestyle. By definition, vegans don't use animals for food, clothing, entertainment, or any other purpose- so why would it be ok to kill spiders, which belong to the animal kingdom?
