  1. If the weather conditions in your area are right for a tornado to occur a watch will be issued. When a tornado is happening or will happen soon a warning will be issued. Once a tornado watch is issued you should make sure to stay tuned to your local news or listen to the weather radio to keep up to date with the current conditions in your local area. When a warning is issued in your area you should immediately get to a safe spot.

Find shelter immediately on the lowest floor of your home in an interior room. Basements or cellars are best, but if you don't have one, go to a closet or a bathroom, a small room without windows. If you can, cover yourself up with blankets or a mattress. Also try to take your radio with you so you can hear where the storm is and if the danger is over. In public buildings, try to find a sheltered area away from windows. A small room is best. If you're in a trailer home, get out and try to find a solidly built building or tornado shelter to hide in.

  2. uhh no. If you think your basement is scary try being picked up and thrown by a twisting column of air with branches and all sorts of c**p being pelted at you at 200 to 300 mph. Until there is a tornado warning you can stay upstairs, but if there is a warning don't, be smart.

  3. it's more dangerous for you to stay upstairs than to stay in your basement. Ok.. your basement is scary but dont you think your life is more important than your fear..??

    get life..!

  4. Uh-uh. No, ma'am! Tornadoes don't seem that damaging, but once you have experience, you'll know how terrible they are. They can pick up houses and flip cars. So, would you rather stay upstairs and have debree flying at you at up to 300mph, or just be in a basement where you have about a 90% chance of living?

If you stay upstairs, your walls could get torn down and debree could come flying in your home!

A room that is in the heart (center) of your house is best, and it always has to be on the lowest floor. A room with no windows is best. Sometimes, bathtubs work as shelter areas.

During a watch, staying upstairs is okay... just make sure you keep an eye on the sky and turn on the weather channel (or go to weather.com). If there is a warning, go to the basement with a portable radio, cell phone and its charger, and a flashlight. You can bring some other nesessicities too (if you are sure that it will get really bad) - like a blanket, pillows, and make sure  you are dressed in suitable clothing so flying debree doesn't cut you. Also, bring any personal and/or valuable belongings. ALWAYS remember your pets, too!

Then again, there are issues with basements. Usually, it can be harder to hear the sirens, and the storm is hard to see through those tiny basement windows. Also, if the power goes out, there is not much light coming in... (always keep a flashlight!). Hope you stay safe in the storm.

    Hope I helped :) -seb

  5. Please head for the basement where it is safe if there is a Tornado warning.

  6. Probably better to be in a downstair's bathroom.....

  7. OK I live in South Dakota so trust me... I know tornadoes; I don't know if it would be OK or not to stay upstairs but I do all the time. You just have to know what to look for and stuff. If you hear and noises that kinda sound like a train is coming you definatley need to go downstairs because that's what tornadoes sound like right before they hit. Also if you see ANY rotation in the clouds you should go downstairs into a small room or closet... something without windows. Also, you should be watching the weather or listening to it on the radio and if it says that there is a spotted one in or very near your town it would be benefical if you went downstairs. Sure your basement is scary but you wouldn't want to be stuck in a swirling vortex! Hope everything is/was safe!
