its a gn250 and I can't get it on the center stand by myself as I am too small and I need to be able to do all the maintenance myself. So what is to stop me just tightening the chain on the side stand. I would just take out the split pin , loosen the main axel nut then loosen the little nut thingys. mark them then tighten the other nut things and do the whole thing in reverse. That should work right. And also..how come when we tighten the chain on the center stand and the play is fine once i get it back on the side stand its too loose? And why are the split pins so freaking annoying to get in and out?

  1. Dark your chain may well be shot (used up). It should remain adjusted no matter what position. Get it on center stand and reevaluate.

  2. yes you can adjust the chain on the side stand.. when you loosen it all of.. make sure you tighten the bolts on both sides that pull the chain/.axle back the same on each side..& if you fit a new split pin..  only bend one side of the pin enough to keep it in the axle... easier to get out next time..

To put your bike on the center stand..

the chain is at its tightest point when the swing arm is down..  so as you put weight on the bike & the shocks shorten the chain becomes a little looser...

stand beside the bike with your left hand on the bars.. & the right hand holding under the seat(right hand side rear)..

stand on the center stand with your right foot...

as you lift with your right hand .. straighten your legs & pull to the rear of the bike as you do so...  bike should just roll on to the stand...

try it...     its not that hard to do...  & once you get the nack of it...   its easy...

  3. have someone around your weight sit on the bike as you tighten the chain

  4. You can but its a lot more difficult than getting the bike upright. Its really hard to triple check the alignment of the rear wheel when its leaned over. Tightening Your chain isn't something You should have to do very often so when You do go to do it You want to do it right.
