Is it ok if i put a plow on a mtd mower?

PLEASE HELP ME! i have a 1997 18.5hp yardmachines ridding mower and i want to know if it is ok to put a plow on it? THANKS ,MTD11

  1. Congrats on having an 11 year old MTD! That in itself is remarkable!

    You certainly can put a plow on it, but realize that the time and age of this unit is already past its life expectancy. Plowing snow will only speed up its ultimate demise.

    It certainly owes you nothing at this point so why not?

  2. I'd consider how you're going to attach the plow and is there going to need any reienforcing of the frame. There's going to be a good deal of torque and the basic frame won't take very much. As far as would it handle a plow, I'd say yes provided you're not going to try and push up stumps or really heavy work. Maybe a drag scrapper blade would be more pratical.

    I reckon it would depend on the plow, the depth, and the ground, but I'm gonna say no.  That may be askin' a lot out of 18.5 hp motor.

  4. It had better be a lite one because of the front end on those is not very heavy duty. I personally would not rec. it. I prefer an older modal such as a 80-1990 john deere or wheel horse.
