  1. hmmmm this is quite a time to leave your bird. personaly i would think about finding a new home for your bird. unless theres someone in the house when your not there, to comfort him/her. good luck =)

  2. When do you sleep if you work from 3-12 and spend the other half with the bird?  Sounds like your bird is only getting 4-5 hours of good quality time with you a day and they really need more attention than that.

  3. The quanity of time is not what is most important, QUALITY time means alot...everyone must work or be away from their feathered ones at some time or another in life...Making it nearly impossible to always spend time with your bird. However, making sure your bird has plenty of 'busy' type toys, chew toys, even foraging items will enhance your birds quiet/alone times. Also leaving a TV or radio on for the feathered one can fill the total silence and help your feathered one deal well with the time you are away. Always change toys & busy items to offer variety & curiosity for your feathered one as well as a good diet. When you do spend time with your bird make sure it is good interaction time as well as flight with change of environment if possible. Letting the bird simply sit on a playstand while with you is not sufficient interaction. However, every chance you get, allowing your bird to be out of the cage & at least on its playstand is very beneficial rather than being cramped in his cage. Kudos to you for caring enough about your feathered one! Take care~

  4. Just make sure s/he has plenty of toys in its cage to keep it stimulated.  We only spend half the day with our African grey but her cage is loaded with toys that we change every week to keep it new and exciting for her.  We also keep the radio on for her so she has something to listen to.

  5. Your bird will be fine.  Macaws are ok while the owners are at work.  Just make sure it has toys to play with and things it can chew on to amuse itself, and make sure it has a very large cage.  Birds that are left alone should, and NEED extra room to move about inside the cage when they play.  Don't let people make you feel guilty, your bird will be ok.  Give him an extra bowl with food in it and make sure he has a large bowl for water.  Please read my profile.
