Is it ok that my stitches are loose 9 hours wisdom teeth removal?

I just got my wisdom teeth out at around 11am this morning and after eating (more like swallowing) soup for dinner at 8pm.. i felt that something was stuck between my back two molars.. I didn't recall the surgeon saying that I was getting stitches so I assumed it was something that ate that was stuck between my teeth so i started picking at it.. then when it wouldn't come out.. i asked my dad and he said that WERE stitches (most likely the dissolvable ones) and now I'm freaking out cuz I don't want a dry socket. =[

Now the stitch(es) looks like floss stuck between my teeth and I'm doing my best not to touch it with my tongue but its bothering me (cuz its an object in my mouth not because it hurts) and i don't know what to do. Someone help.

  1. If they are *that* loose, if possible, maybe your dad can cut the string and just pull it out.  Ideally the stitches would stay in longer than 9 hours, but your gums will heal regardless.  I don't think even if you were to tell the dentist that they would bring you back to put new stitches in.  By tomorrow your gums will already start to reattach and heal, but you may just need to be a bit more careful not to eat on that area for a few days.

As for avoiding dry socket, I'm sure your dentist told you, no smoking, no drinking through straws, sucking, or spitting, and you should be ok.
